First and foremost, our day camps are taught by BC certified teachers who are passionate and experienced in the interest areas of their camp programs. They have designed their camp programs through their own experiences, training, and interests to bring fun and hands-on learning to our day campers.
Though are camp programs are meant to be fun, they are geared for children and parents who want more than just a play-based experience or child-minding service. Children will be engaged in activities, projects, and lessons specifically in areas of their interest. Our teachers intend to build in an active component into their programs so that our campers are not “stuck” in a classroom each class.
For the summer of 2020, our camp programs will run from June 29 to August 14, 2020. Each program will run for a duration of one or two weeks depending on the program. This is designed for maximum flexibility in consideration of family’s travel schedules during the summer season.
We will be offering morning (9:00am – 12:00pm) and afternoon sessions (12:30pm – 3:30pm). For students who register for ALL DAY programs (morning & afternoon sessions) we will offer a FREE lunchtime supervision to ensure students will transition from their morning to afternoon camp sessions. An optional Lunch Box Program through Truffles Fine Foods at the Richmond Oval is available.
We do not have a permanent office at this time as we will be leasing space from the Richmond Olympic Oval to run our programs. During our camp period this summer, we will have a space at the Oval dedicated as our office. In person registration may take place at that time. In the meantime, please register for our programs online through our Registration site. Telephone registration may be available in the near future.
Each camp may have specific items or equipment that your child will need to bring with them to camp each day. These will be described under each camp’s description. Please ensure your child brings these items daily. Materials not described will be provided by our camp program.
In general, your child should be dressed appropriately for our summer indoor and outdoor weather. Note that some camps will include outdoor activities. Campers may wish to bring:
No, our camp programs WILL NOT run on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 (CANADA DAY) and Monday, August 3, 2020 (BC DAY). The shorter weeks will be reflected in the camps fees in those weeks containing holiday dates.
Every special needs child has a different set of needs and may require specific supports. As we are not a Ministry funded program, we do not have extra resources available to hire trained educational assistants or support workers. That said, depending on the needs of your child, we may be able to support your child within the resources and staffing that we have available. Please contact us directly if you would like to consult with us about your child’s needs before registering for one of our programs.

Yes, many of our staff have recent training in First Aid and CPR. We will have a designated first aid staff member on site in case of minor injuries. 911 will be called for more serious emergencies.
At Brightspace Learning, the health and safety of our participants, families, and staff are of utmost importance to us. We pride ourselves in creating a safe learning environment in every way possible. Understandably, many parents are naturally concerned about the COVID-19 pandemic and its potential impacts on summer camp programs.
Brightspace Learning is closely monitoring the updates and guidelines recommended by the Government of BC and Provincial Health Authorities. As information is rapidly changing on a daily basis, we appreciate our families for their patience and understanding through this global crisis. We strive to bring families our most up-to-date responses and information about our programs in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Based on recent re-opening decisions and guidelines from the Government of BC, the Provincial Health Authority, the City of Richmond, and the availability of the Richmond Olympic Oval, we have made the difficult decision to delay the opening of our in-person camps until August. We continue our full preparation and planning of our summer 2020 programs. Please see our Camps and Registration page for updated schedules and camp offerings. Our online programs will not be affected and have redesigned some of our camps to be offered online, where possible. More online programs are currently in development and will be available shortly.
For our in-person camps, we continue to monitor government decisions and health authority updates closely to determine their potential impacts on our camps. Please check back for updates. We appreciate your understanding and patience as our community works through these difficult challenges.

In the event we are unable to deliver our in-person programs during our camp period, registered campers will have the option of receiving a FULL REFUND OR CREDIT on camp fees for programs that are affected. Note that some camp programs may be translated and adjusted to live online sessions, via Zoom web-conferencing software. Registered campers will have the option to participate online (any differences in pricing will be adjusted and refunded, if necessary) OR receive a full refund on their camp fees. Note that online programs will not be affected by availability of the Richmond Oval, thus our regular refund policy still applies to these programs.
Parents will be advised a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the scheduled start of a camp program of any camp cancellations. No fees will be charged for any camp cancellations initiated by Brightspace Learning.
We encourage all interested families to register early to take advantage of our Early Bird discount and secure spots in desired camps. Once social-distancing measures are lifted by health authorities, we anticipate many families will register and availability may be limited.
